He wrote the book solely out of love for his Polish heritage and the fact that many young people of Polish ancestry have lost interest in Polish culture and language.  The purpose of the book is to educate people (especially young Poles) on the rich and diverse culture and history that Poles have given to North American Society. Ed’s presentation will be followed by a Q and A session and a book signing.

Ed Zawadski’s book and presentation is consistent with PACT’s mission to further the image of our Polish heritage and local Polonia and we are proud to introduce him to Toledo.

The first Sunday of the PACT euchre tournament is over. We think everyone enjoyed themselves. The lucky first place winner was Marlin and the second place winner was Darlene. Both were awarded a cash prize. The next euchre tournament is Sunday, September 26th. It will start exactly at 3 PM so don't be late! The more people who play, the bigger the winnings are, so bring your relatives, your friends and your neighbors to the next euchre tournament. It's very informal and everyone is welcome.  The schedule for euchre is:

Sunday, September, 26th, at 3 PM

Sunday, October 10th, at 3 PM

Sunday, October 24, euchre is cancelled because of the showing of the movie "Nine Days That Changed the World" at the Maumee Theatre.  There will also be a art show along with the movie.  Don't miss this great event.

Abducted from his family by the Nazis at the age of 8, he was starved, tortured and left for dead three times.  During his third capture, he was sent to an experimental hospital where cruel medical experiments were done on him.  The rest of his family – a brother, sister, and parents – were also captured and sent to different slave labor or concentration camps.

Mr. Garwolinski talks about his existence in this harsh environment, his escapes and about many of the memories that still live vividly in his mind.

He was a Polish-American child who lived through the violence of the Holocaust.

His family was tortured because they hid Jewish families from the Nazis.

He was an eye-witness to many atrocities in Poland and Russia.

He was captured, tortured, and experimented on in Nazi medical experimentation camps.

As a child, he worked with and scouted for the Polish Underground to fight the Nazis.

He escaped from the Nazi prison camps each of the three times he was captured.

He is the author of the book titled, “Silent Screams of a Survivor”

Mr. Gawrolinski will be at Ski's Restaurant on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 7:00 PM to give a first hand account of his holocaust ordeal.  Call 419-882-1199 to reserve your seat for Mr. Garwolinski's presentation.  The admission price is $3; PACT members are free.
