On Thursday, July 29th about 40 people gathered at Ski’s Restaurant to listen to Tom Waniewski, Toledo City Councilman, who is currently running for the Ohio State Senate. Mr. Waniewski outlined much of his platform which included lowering state taxes, balancing the budget and cutting out much of the special interest spending which currently exists. He also talked about many city related issues and answered questions from the folks who attended. Mr. Waniewski is a native Toledoan who grew up in the old Lagrange Street neighborhood. He has strong ties to the local Polish community and is a current and active member of PACT. PACT encourages everyone to vote for the candidate of their choice in November.

On Saturday, July 24th, the Katyn exhibit came to Toledo. The presentation was shown at the Rosary Care Center on the campus of Lourdes College in Sylvania, Ohio. Dr. Allen Paul gave a lecture about the events surrounding Katyn in World War II and the background to this historic and tragic event that took the lives of 22,000 Polish army officers, intellectuals, teachers, and government officials by the hands of the Russian Army. This event took place in April of 1940. The event was sponsored by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (co-chair of the Polish caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives), the Polish Embassy and the Kosciuszko Foundation. If you missed this exhibit, you can view Dr. Paul’s presentation on the website of WTGE.
